Building Pathways to Employment: Work Experience with Texas Workforce

Texas Workforce plays a vital role in helping individuals gain meaningful work experience, build job skills, and prepare for successful employment. In this breakout session, participants will learn how Texas Workforce programs support youth and adults, including individuals on the autism spectrum, through hands-on work experiences, job readiness training, and career exploration opportunities. Presenters will explain what work experience programs are, who is eligible, and how to get started. Families, caregivers, and participants will gain a better understanding of how structured work experiences can increase confidence, independence, and long-term employment success. This session is designed to provide practical information, clear next steps, and real-world examples, empowering attendees to explore employment supports available through Texas Workforce.

Time: 9:30-10:15am
Who Should Attend: Youth and adults on the autism spectrum, families, caregivers, educators, and professionals interested in employment supports, vocational training, and work experience opportunities.
- Be able to communicate their needs (verbally, with AAC, or other reliable communication methods)
- Be fully potty trained
- Be able to participate in an activity for up to 45 minutes
- Be able to follow basic directions
- Be paired with a designated buddy and must never be left alone during the session
- 14 years old and up
- Parents or caregivers must drop off and pick up participants directly at the assigned classroom for each breakout session
- Participants may only be released to their parent or designated caregiver at the end of the session

- Emergency contact information
- Whether the participant is an elopement risk (yes or no)
