Some kids communicate with their voices. Some communicate using devices. Others communicate through movement, facial expressions, gestures, and behavior—and all of it is communication. In this practical and encouraging session, Ashlyn Hudson of PSSTexas introduces Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in clear, easy-to-understand terms. Families and professionals will learn what AAC is, what it isn’t, and how it can be used to support language development, reduce frustration, and increase independence for children with communication differences. This session will address common myths about AAC, explain when and how AAC can be introduced, and show how multiple forms of communication can work together—not replace one another. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how honoring a child’s current communication style builds connection, confidence, and meaningful communication. Time will be included for questions and discussion, making this a supportive space for learning and reassurance.
